Giant
Giant's Special Rules[edit | edit source]
Giant cannot go first, i.e. Giant cannot win initiative in a round. Note that this creates a small conundrum if Giant were to face off against himself. Presumably in that case you might determine initiative normally, or flip a coin, etc. That particular problem is left for the users to decide in a face-to-face game.
The tournament legality of Giant is not exactly settled. Some organizers might allow him, others not. This might also necessitate a decision as to what to do in a Giant/Giant matchup as mentioned above. Originally, Giant was not tournament legal, largely based on rarity and, therefore, a perception of being "overpowered".
Design Notes[edit | edit source]
The convention of placing button ability text on the button itself was adopted because rare Buttons are typically presented with no support material, and must therefore be relatively self-contained.
Giant’s six 20’s were the original playtest recipe for Crusher, but the dice were later shunted to a rare button in favor of a more “normal” brute strength recipe for Crusher. Players would have to wait until Spring of 2000 for the first non-rare Button Man with more than five dice, Max from the Freaks expansion.
