Four Horsemen is a set based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It was proposed by BMO user Stick during the first iteration of Button Men Online.[1] The source for the images is "The First Four Seals" by Pat Marvenko Smith. The set was image edited by Dana Huyler, the person behind the Buttonmen Online site. The set was ability-based, as according to Huyler, "There was nothing religious for the horsemen. [They were] well-known set themes."

Stick had this to say about the set's creation and its impact:

[The creation of the set is] [p]robably less exciting than one might think.  Dana made the Seven Deadly Sins set, which I very much liked.  I was trying to think of similar ideas and came up with the idea of a set for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.  I tried to think of some flavor text, and decided that they'd be members of a band.  The recipes mostly came together I think.  I didn't do any real playtesting of the recipes before sending them to Dana.  I was able to tweak them a little bit after some playing on the original site.  I remember that the original recipe for Famine had a Null Dice in it, but Null Dice are just generally bad. Dana probably let me put them up on the site because I was one of the play testers.   Another user on the site found artwork and made the images.

I think the idea of the Fanatics came up at some point because everybody and their granny wanted to propose recipes, so that became a way to let everyone do that, since so few other people actually were able to propose a whole set of their own on the original site.
